A new RaceTrac gas station is coming to south Forsyth.

On Thursday, Forsyth County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a conditional use permit, alternate design approval and amend zoning conditions for a new RaceTrac at 1385 McFarland Parkway, which is the site of a former BP station.

Other than zoning attorneys and officials with RaceTrac, there were no speakers in the required public hearings for the alternate design approval and amended zoning conditions

The 5,411-square-foot store will sit on 2.8 acres with 31 parking spaces. The store will be open 24 hours, which zoning attorney Christopher Light said could help with safety.

“Lights on and people there, they’ll keep a lookout, keep people from the property and loitering,” Light said.

RaceTrac stations appear to be becoming popular in Forsyth County.

In February, commissioners unanimously approved plans for new stores at Hammond’s Crossing — the intersection of Browns Bridge Road (Hwy. 369) and Keith Bridge Road (Hwy. 306) — and 4100 McGinnis Ferry Road.
