Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club to hold annual golf tournament
Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club

Grab your clubs and practice that swing, because the annual Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club charity golf tournament has come again, inviting golfers of all age and skill levels to come and raise money for their cause.

Held May 11, the seventh annual event will take place at the Hampton Gold Club in north Forsyth, with a noon tee off.

According to Brenda Basey, president of the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club, interested golfers will have until Monday, May 7 to register for the event and can do so by visiting the club online at sawneecummingoptimist.org.

She said the event registration is still open, but that due to the public interest in the event some “swag” items may not be available.

Basey said that 50 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta (CHOA) and the other half will go back into the club for events that they host in the community.

In the past six years, the event has raised more than $25,000 for the charity, according to the club web site.

Basey said that CHOA will be presented with a check from the club in the next month.

Participating golfers will have an opportunity to win a variety of prizes and raffles at the event, Basey said. Tickets for the raffle can be bought from any club member for $5 or three tickets for $10, the site stated.

“The thing is we want to make it a fun day for everybody,” Basey said.
