Duc Nguyen didn’t want to open an ordinary nail salon and spa. It had to be modern and sophisticated, like the places featured on home network television shows that he knew his customers would be watching during a manicure or pedicure.
So Nguyen created Universal Nails & Spa to match his clientele’s aspirational taste. Flatscreen televisions hang on the walls. Crystal chandeliers drop from the ceiling. White marble floors and countertops establish the light, neutral palate inside the business at 3670 Hutchinson Road that recently opened.
Universal Nails & Spa offers nail care and spa treatment services, from pedicures to manicures to facials, with 30 luxury spa chairs divided into two sections on either side of the 5,300-square-foot space. There are three private rooms for facials and another for massages.
But nowhere can trash cans be found. Nguyen doesn’t tolerate them. All garbage goes straight outside rather than risk cluttering up the environment he so carefully designed.
It was a small but purposeful decision meant to convey Universal’s commitment to cleanliness.
“Cleaning is important. Sanitizing is important,” Nguyen said. “It always looks clean every day.”
