On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to congratulate Forsyth County State Court Judge Philip C. Smith on his appointment by Gov. Nathan Deal as a Superior Court judge in the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit, as well as Forsyth County Solicitor General Leslie C. Abernathy, who was appointed by Gov. Deal to succeed Judge Smith as State Court judge.
The people of Forsyth County will benefit from Judge Smith’s 33 years of experience in the legal profession, including the past nine years as State Court judge. He also serves as a member of the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors.
Judge Abernathy brings 21 years in the legal profession, including service as vice chair of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, to her new position.
Accepting these appointments demonstrates the continued commitment of Judge Smith and Judge Abernathy to public service, which in turn serves to promote the cause of justice, uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens. We wish both of them well in these new positions of judicial leadership.
Robin Frazer Clark, president
State Bar of Georgia
