Hospital needs OK to expand service

Forsyth County News

I am definitely in favor of having our hospital construct or make changes in the present mothers’ ward so that newborn babies with major problems do not have to be moved to another hospital but can safely be treated here. My feelings and hopes are based on the following:

I moved to Cumming in 2001 to start my retirement from being the manager of a family compound on Wassaw Island off the coast of Georgia.

In ways, Cumming was somewhat similar to the family compound on Wassaw Island in that the local hospital here in Cumming was very small and had limited medical capabilities and capacity. On Wassaw, anyone that that got hurt or was very sick and needed hospital attention had to be taken by boat to the mainland. Here in Cumming, the hospital also had limited capabilities as to medical problems and patient capacity, so many potential patients had to be taken to better facilities out of the county.

I have watched our hospital (Northside) grow by leaps and bounds since 2001. In fact my wife and I both have been patients at Northside, not once but several times. The hospital has grown in many, many ways regarding patient capacity, operating rooms, .medical and treatment capabilities, even parking facilities, etc.

Now we learn that some babies that are born here must be taken to another hospital to survive! I am definitely in favor of having our hospital construct or make changes in the present mothers’ ward so that newborn babies with major problems do not have to be moved to another hospital but can safely be treated here.
