Newcomers should have to shoulder impact fees

Forsyth County News

Impact fees should be levied for the purpose of financing all of the expansion of infrastructure required to accommodate people moving into a municipality.

Such expenses should be the responsibility of only those moving in and not those already residing in the municipality.

Those already residing in the municipality have already paid for, or have obligated themselves via bonds, etc. for, the infrastructure required for their residency.

Operating, maintenance and improvement expenses and the cost of capital replacements of infrastructure in place then becomes the responsibility of all of those residing in the municipality.

Our Forsyth County commissioners and school board members should be held to these principles of equitable allocation of financial burdens via impact fees and protect the residents of Forsyth County from having to bear even part of the burden of the expansion of infrastructure required to accommodate people moving into our county.

Should they fail to do so, we should vote them out of office.
