Last meeting: Cass won 13-6 on Sept. 12.
What to know: In the context of the playoffs, this game means nothing. Cass was eliminated from contention even before its 24-21 victory last week against Rome. Central was eliminated in a 35-21 loss last week to Cambridge. But don’t tell that to either team. Both are certainly motivated by the potential to end lengthy droughts without a winning season. Cass’s drought stretches back to 2006 when it finished 7-4, Central to 2001 when it also finished 7-4.
They’ll attempt to end the droughts in a rematch of a Sept. 12 game that Cass won 13-6. Central will certainly be familiar with quarterback Trevor Lowe, who completed 7-of-16 passes for 159 yards against Rome. It will recall the running back duo of Derrick Maxwell and Dexter Wilkey, who rushed for 81 and 47 yards, respectively. Or defensive backs Brett Gaddy and Stanlee May who each had an interception. Even kicker Pablo Delores, whose 31-yard field goal before halftime turned out to be the game-winner.
And Cass will surely remember Central’s running back duo of Shaun Diebel and Sabrian Howard. Diebel has rushed for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns on 197 carries while Howard has 797 yards and six touchdowns on 142 carries. They’re 13 yards away from combining for 2,000 rushing yards on the season.
Maxwell Projection: Central by 1.
