What to know: Lambert is coming off an emotional victory last weekend against Collins Hill—the same team that beat the Longhorns 35-13 in the opening round of the playoffs last year—at home, making for the first victory against a Gwinnett County school in the team’s playing history, which started in 2009.
The Longhorns can grab a winning record Friday if they can beat a talented Cherokee team, but the Warriors have not been able to turn that talent into a winning product since going 7-4 under head coach Josh Shaw two seasons ago.
Cherokee is coming off a 35-34 loss at Creekview, so the offense is cooking, but they might have trouble against a Lambert defense that shut down a potent Collins Hill offense last week. Lambert running back and defensive back Marcus Chatelain is on the cusp of entering the FCN’s offensive or defensive player of the year consideration, while Richie Kenney continues to gel with receivers Tyler Gillis and Bobby Gabriel.
The Warriors have a dangerous passing-receiving combo in quarterback Nolan Donley and receiver Montrell Washington, while linebacker Jack Carroll is a tenured veteran and playmaker.
