Lambert running back Harrison Pomfret had a break-out game last week against Centennial. The Longhorns will need him to do the same if they hope to take down two-time defending region champion Alpharetta. - photo by Kevin O'Brien

Lambert at Alpharetta

When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at The Arena in Alpharetta.

Records, rankings: Lambert is 2-1 overall, 2-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked in Class AAAAAA; Alpharetta is 2-1, 1-1 and unranked.

Series history: Alpharetta leads 3-0.

Last meeting: Alpharetta won 35-17 in 2014.

What to know: In a weird way, Lambert comes into Alpharetta at possibly the worst time. The Raiders had their 21-game winning streak in Region 6-AAAAAA snapped last week by Johns Creek, who pulled a 43-39 upset victory as 36-point underdogs and playing a freshman quarterback. So maybe the Raiders are super-motivated after a humbling experience. Or maybe they’re as vulnerable as the Johns Creek loss suggests. Either way, the result means Region 6-AAAAAA is as wide open as it’s been the past few seasons.

And currently tied atop the region is Lambert, who once again seems to have taken a few games to find itself on offense. The Longhorns came to life on offense last week in a 45-36 victory against Centennial, and the biggest revelation was running back Harrison Pomfret. The junior rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. But Lambert had two 100-yard rushers, as Brian Wright added 112 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
