Series history: First meeting
What to know: If the Longhorns win one of their next two games they’ll be crowned region champions for the first time in school history. That’s because, even if they drop a game, the worst they can do is fall into a tie with either South Forsyth or West Forsyth—the Longhorns own the tie breaker over both. They can’t overlook Milton, which is still searching for a signature victory outside of a close game in the season opener against Alpharetta. The only Class 7A opponent Milton has defeated is Forsyth Central, but the Eagles have this game circled.
It could be a trap game for the Longhorns too. Even though they dominated the defensive side of the ball last week against West, Lambert still managed under 200 yards of offense as its regular power running game with Justin Bruno never came to fruition against the Wolverines. A win at Milton should set up Lambert for an undefeated run through region. The Longhorns were unscathed heading into last year’s season finale against South; thanks to getting the War Eagles out of the way in the region opener, they can breathe easier down the stretch. Lambert is the only GHSA football program in the county not to have a region championship.
