What to know: Lambert might be more eager to get back on a football field than any other team in the county. The Longhorns impressed all of last year, winning eight straight games after a season-opening loss to Lanier, before they fell 31-6 against South Forsyth in the region schedule finale and 35-13 against Collins Hill in the first round of the playoffs.

Now the Longhorns return with a revolving door of tailbacks and enough returning talent on defense to re-insert themselves into the county’s conversation.

Lambert’s opponent, Mountain View, has to feel good about winning its opening game 60-0. Look closer though – the Bears did hold a 53-0 halftime lead last week, but it was against Osborne, which is one of Georgia’s higher-classification schools notorious for struggling to field football teams with formidable participation. The Bears even get a break again next week with Berkmar on the schedule.

Lambert quarterback Richie Kenney should use this game to further solidify his spot as the starter, especially with last year’s opportunistic backup Bobby Gabriel making strides as a wide receiver. The Longhorns will also be looking to break in a bunch of new faces along the offensive line.
