For the second straight day, the Lambert Longhorns baseball team finished No. 1 in the final national poll from a major publication.
This time USA Today kept the Longhorns ahead of No. 2 Barbe High School from Louisiana, the team Lambert has dueled for supremacy in the national rankings. On Tuesday, the Longhorns finished ahead of Barbe in the final Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Poll.
Lambert is ranked No. 2 behind Barbe in the latest MaxPreps Xcellent 50 Baseball Rankings released Tuesday and in the final Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association Top 50 two weeks ago. It is unlikely Lambert will move past Barbe into the top spot when the final MaxPreps ranking is released next week as both teams’ seasons are complete.
The debate between the two teams has focused on Lambert’s strength of schedule against Barbe’s 27-game winning streak to end its season. The Longhorns’ robust schedule, in which it won the USA National Baseball Classic and the GHSA Class AAAAAA championship while going 36-2, gave Lambert the edge for Collegiate Baseball and USA Today.
