Former Lambert golfer Sloan Shanahan grabbed one of nine qualifying spots at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier event at Dalton Golf and Country Club on Monday.
Shanahan secured one of the final two qualifying spots when she and three other golfers went to a playoff. Melissa Siviter of England made a birdie on the first playoff hole. Shanahan made par. Sarah Harris of Hermitage, Tenn., and Cammie Gay of Northport, Ala., lost in the playoff and are alternates.
Shanahan finished her round tied for eighth with Siviter, Harris and Gay with a 2-over 74. She’ll now get to compete in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., on August 5-11.
The former Lady Longhorns standout, who signed with Clemson, helped lead Lambert to the Class 6A championship this past spring after back-to-back runner-up finishes.
West Forsyth rising senior Isabella Skinner shot a 6-over 78, while Cumming-native Minji Kim shot 80.
