Brookwood at South Forsyth
When, where: Thursday, 4:30 p.m. in Cumming; Friday at 5:55 p.m. if necessary
Records and seedings: South is 26-6 and the No. 1 seed from Region 5; Brookwood is 24-8 and the No. 2 seed from Region 7.
What to know: North Forsyth might have been the hottest team in the county after the non-region schedule, but in the Raiders' second game of the year, Brookwood's Alex Flood smothered their offense with no-hitter. So the War Eagles will have to deal with Flood, who threw a two-hit shutout against Archer in a first-round win, as well as Broncos catcher Will Banfield, one of the top catching prospects in the country. At this point in the playoffs, there truly are no easy outs.
What’s next: The winner faces either Lassiter or Lowndes in the state quarterfinals.
Pinecrest Academy at Hebron Christian
When, where: Thursday, 1 p.m. in Dacula; Friday if necessary.
Records and seedings: Pinecrest is 9-8-2 and No. 21 seed in Class 1A-Private; Hebron Christian is 14-13 and the No. 5 seed in Class 1A-Private.
What to know: Hebron Christian has a story not unlike Forsyth Central: After starting 2-9 on the season, the Lions surged back in area play and earned a spot hosting a playoff series. This draw looks to favor the Paladins on the surface, though, as Pinecrest topped Hebron 15-4 back in March and, as their game three win over Stratford Academy in the opening series showed, the Paladins' slugging ways are as present as ever.
What’s next: The winner faces either Fellowship Christian or Holy Innocents in the state quarterfinals.
