CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP: Central, Lambert boys shine at Clara Bowl

Forsyth Central at Berry College Clara Bowl Invitational

BOYS: Central’s five runners turned in an average time of 17 minutes, 34 seconds, good enough for 6th place (out of 37 teams) on a sweltering course in Rome that made for slower times. Austin Campbell (17:05, 19th place) was the top finisher for the Bulldogs. Max Warner (17:30, 34th), Charlie Webb (17:37), Will Hasse (17:46) and Cole Gizelbach (17:48) rounded out Central’s top five with just a 43 second split between the first and fifth runners.

GIRLS: Bonnie McKinnon (19:53, 31st place) again turned in a strong performance for Central as the Bulldogs finished 22nd overall out of 35 teams. Ashley Malone crossed the finish line next in 21:38; Sam Chamblee finished third for the Bulldogs in 23:02. Devyn Malenzak (23:07) and Alyssa Hooper (23:11) also scored for Central.

Lambert at Clara Bowl

BOYS: The Longhorns averaged 17 minutes, 35 seconds, one second slower than Central, and Jonathan Schwind (16:31) finished 4th, 13 seconds behind winner Quintin Miles of North Hall. Lambert finished in 7th place overall. Hank (17:34, 38th) and Byron (17:47, 49th) Grogan, Michael House (17:58) and Tyler Fox (18:03) were the other Longhorns runners to score.

GIRLS: Lambert’s girls finished just outside the top 10 Saturday, led by Mae McKenna’s 19th-place finish in 19 minutes, 24 seconds. The Longhorns averaged 20 minutes, 33 seconds. Anna McCarthy (20:32, 57th) was the second Lambert runner to finish, followed by Libby Bocko (20:52), Elly Sherman (20:55) and Kaylee Stilwell (20:58).

North Forsyth at Clara Bowl

BOYS: North finished 27th overall with an average time of 19 minutes, 37 seconds. Ben Cochran was the first Raiders runner to cross the finish line in 18:50; Anthony Verdirame finished just four seconds behind. Tommy Scheyer (19:48), Jarred Benvenuto (20:10) and Kyle Murberger (20:20) completed North’s top five.

GIRLS: Nina Carter (20:42, 60th place) and Gigi Fulkerson (21:06) led the Raiders to an 18th-place finish in Rome. Caitlan Hulsebus (21:16), Stephanie Metzger (22:13) and Lauren Little (22:58) completed North’s top five, for an average time of 21 minutes, 39 seconds.
