Cross country: South girls, Lambert boys put in strong finishes in Great American meet

South Forsyth and Lambert competed in the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. on Saturday, pitting those teams against some of the top squads from around the East Coast. The War Eagles boys and girls and the Lambert boys competed in the Nike Race of Champions division, and the Lambert girls competed in the seeded division.

The War Eagles girls had the top team finish among county teams, finishing fourth overall. Kaylee DuPont was South's top individual finisher, coming in 26th in 18:50.70, and Madelynne Cadeau and Aleesa De Castro finished 36th and 44th, respectively. Lambert finished sixth in the boys race, with Tyler Fox (25th) and Lee Keil (12th) coming in as the Longhorns' top individual finishers. Michael Patterson, who finished 69th in 16:18.10, led the South Forsyth boys to a 16th-place finish. The Lambert girls finished ninth in their division, with Caroline Gaharan finishing ninth individually to lead the Longhorns.

Forsyth Central's Calan Gizelbach had perhaps his best run of the season in the Furman Gene Mullin Invitational in Greenville, S.C. on Saturday, winning the boys championship race in 16:02.12. The Bulldogs boys finished third overall as a team, and while Central's girls team competed as well, with Caitlyn Sylvestre being their top finisher, in 41st, the Bulldogs didn't have enough runners to place in the team standings.

The West Forsyth boys and girls competed in the Disney Cross Country Classic in Kissimmee, Florida on Saturday. The Wolverines girls finished fourth in the 4A race, with Mallory Luskus finishing 12th overall in 20:08.70 and Haley Tillery coming in 30th in 20:40.50. The West boys finished 7th in their race, led by Jeremy Ericson, who finished 5th in 16:55. 

North Forsyth competed in the Runners Fit Mountain Invitational on Thursday, with the Raiders boys team finishing 17th and the girls team finishing 22nd. Josh Schunk was North's top boys finisher, coming in 34th in 17:12, and Stephanie Metzger led the girls with a 97th-place finish, in 23:43.
