Johnson Ferry at Horizon Christian

When, where: Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at Bennett Park in Cumming.

Records, rankings: Johnson Ferry is 4-1; Horizon is 2-4.

What to know: Johnson Ferry might only be in its second season of competition, but it’s already accomplished plenty on the small-school scene. Last season, it went 8-4, won the GFC East Region championship and lost in the state championship in double overtime to Augustra Prep. Johnson Ferry finished ranked No. 1 in Georgia and No. 6 in the country among homeschool football programs by MaxPrep. This season’s version features an offense led by quarterback Mason Meadows, running back Dewan Washington and center Jackson Smith. Luke Chauncey and Thomas Gilbert start both ways at defensive back and wide receiver, Matthew Howard starts at defensive end and tight end and Isaiah Fichtner contributes at running back and defensive back.

Horizon might only be a two-win team, but it’s a marked improvement from last season when the Warriors were winless. When the offense is clicking, it’s because James Kimbrough (281 yards, 3 TDs through five games), John Michael Booth (249 yards, 3 TDs) and Travis Pittman (193 yards, 3 TDs) are churning out yards. The defense has been led by Michael Walker, Dalton Lambert, Chase and Cole Brown, Kimbrough and others.
