Inclement winter weather has forced the 2014 State Traditional Wrestling Tournament to be postponed, the Georgia High School Association announced Wednesday.

Originally slated for Feb. 13-15 at the Gwinnett Arena, the tournament will now be held Feb. 21-22. The GHSA said it is exploring alternate host sites as the Gwinnett Arena is unavailable that weekend.

On Monday, the GHSA condensed the tournament from three days into two as foreboding weather forecasts developed. Forecasts continue to call for ice and snow in parts of the state.

“We agree with the school systems that the safety of students, athletes and their supporters must be a major consideration when making decisions and support them in their efforts,” the GHSA said in a statement on its website.

Twenty-four wrestlers from five schools in Forsyth County qualified for the state traditional tournament.
