Save for Forsyth Central’s homecoming game against North Springs, tonight is the county’s chance to take a deep breath.

The first half of the high school football season is in the books – a first half of compelling games (South over Lambert, Lambert over North, etc.) and breakout seasons (West’s Hampton McConnell, Central’s Victor Peppers, Pinecrest’s Andrew Wilborn, etc.) – and every county team other than Central is off this week.

By now, we’d like to think we know a team. But, really, we’re just starting to scratch the surface.

Are Central’s struggles on offense too drastic to fix? Is Lambert the team that turned the ball over seven times to Northview or shocked North last week? Was North’s encouraging start a product of its favorable schedule or a true culture change? Was South’s loss at Alpharetta an aberration? Can Pinecrest’s defense continue its dominance in region play? Did West figure things out for good at Centennial last week?

Before the season began, I predicted the best- and worst-case scenarios for each county team. At the midway point of the season, here’s a look at where Forsyth teams stand against my predictions:

FORSYTH CENTRAL

Best: 7-3

Worst: 1-9

Current: 0-4. Bulldogs could take advantage of weak sub-region schedule.

LAMBERT

Best: 8-2

Worst: 2-8

Current: 2-3. Was the win at North the sign of a mid-season turnaround?

NORTH FORSYTH

Best: 5-5

Worst: 1-9

Current: 4-1. Next two games (Alpharetta, West) will be crucial for Raiders.

PINECREST ACADEMY

Best: 6-4

Worst: 4-6

Current: 4-1. Next three games (Athens Academy, George Walton, Athens Christian) will determine the Paladins’ season.

SOUTH FORSYTH

Best: 7-3

Worst: 4-6

Current: 4-1. Win against Lambert has been the season highlight so far.

WEST FORSYTH

Best: 9-1

Worst: 4-6

Current: 3-2. Wolverines should be favored in every remaining game.
