PREP ROUNDUP: County athletes compete at NB Nationals, Corky Kell 7-on-7

A group of county runners made the trip to Greensboro, N.C. on Thursday and Friday to compete in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. South Forsyth’s Madelynne Cadeau and Denmark’s Karthik Kochuparambil participated in the girls and boys one mile runs on Friday, respectively. Cadeau finished in 30th with a time of 5:11.76, while Kochuparambil placed 22nd in the boys race with a time of 4:21.67.

On Thursday, West Forsyth’s Brandon Nyandoro finished 20th in the freshman boys 400 meter race with a time of 51.32. On Friday, the Wolverines’ girls 4x800 meter relay team placed 36th in its race, crossing the finish line in 10:12.89.

Denmark’s Ethan Ashley ran in the Boys two mile run freshman run on Thursday, clocking in at 10:18.39 for a 25th place finish. On Friday, he placed 23rd in the one mile freshman run, finishing in 4:35.86.


Five county schools took their football teams to Roswell on Friday, competing at the Corky Kell 7-on-7 tournament.

West Forsyth pulled off an upset in the first round of the 35-team tournament. The Wolverines, who came out of pool play as the No. 32 seed, topped No. 1 seeded East Coweta 18-16 after beating Centennial 33-19. West’s run ended in the next round, falling to Marietta 23-8.

Denmark received No. 4 seed heading into the first round of the championship bracket. The Danes edged North Atlanta 26-25 before bowing out of the single-elimination tournament with a 30-26 loss to Johns Creek.

North Forsyth started its day 5-0 before taking a loss to Kell 28-22 in the second round. The Raiders, seeded at No.3, defeated Milton 24-23 in the first round of the tournament.

No. 35 seeded Pinecrest Academy fell to Milton 26-6 in their tournament play-in game, while No. 26 Lambert lost to No. 7 Grayson 23-15 in the first round.
