PREP ROUNDUP: County basketball teams earn weekend wins; South places four wrestlers at Takedown Invitational


North Forsyth’s girls cruised to a win at the Naismith Invitational in Norcross on Saturday, defeating Mays 61-35 to improve to 8-2 this year. Harley Helms scored a team-leading 14 points for the Raiders. Caroline Martin, Ansley Allen and Maggie Martin all finished with double-digit points.

Pinecrest Academy’s boys secured a 65-57 victory over Fellowship Christian on Saturday behind a big night from Josh Boeye, who scored 32 points and connected on eight three-pointers. The Paladins moved to 9-2 on the season and 3-1 in the region.

West Forsyth’s girls pulled out a comeback win at home against Etowah on Saturday, taking the lead in the third quarter on the way to a 51-46 victory. The boys came away with a victory as well.

Lambert’s teams each took losses at the Gwinnett Daily Post Classic at Archer High School on Saturday, with the girls falling to Mill Creek 64-34 and the boys taking a 58-53 loss to Parkview. The boys’ loss was just their second of the season, as they fell to 10-2.

Forsyth Central’s boys took their third consecutive loss on Saturday, taking a 57-37 defeat on the road against Walton. The girls, meanwhile, won their third straight, beating the Raiders 66-54 to improve to 8-4 overall.


South Forsyth finished 10th at the Takedown Sportswear Invitational at Buford High School on Saturday. The War Eagles had four wrestlers in top six positions. AJ Riner was the champion of his weight class. Adrian Guttierez, Rowen Aragon and Luis Gonzalez each earned fifth, sixth, and fourth-place finishes, respectively.
