South’s boys and girls cross country teams impressed Saturday at the Asics Invitational at Fox Hall Farms Sporting Club in Douglasville.
South girls finished runner-up out of 20 teams, while the boys finished fourth out of 27 teams.
Savannah Carnahan led the Lady War Eagles finishing second in 17 minutes 36.87 seconds, just four seconds behind Tayler Tuttle of Providence Christian. Milicent Bergey finished seventh in 18:38.14, Savannah Ratcliff was 29th in 19:37, Caitlan Hulsebus was 35th in 19:49.24 and Emma Maisel was 36th in 19:50.18.
Ryan Peppenhorst led the boys finishing 14th in 15:37.03. Reed Vaughn was 33rd in 16:13.0, Matt Patterson was 38th in 16:16.26, Trevor Kane was 53rd in 16:28.88 and Luke Francis was 57th in 16:30.61.
West goes to Disney: The Wolverines boys and girls cross country teams took a trip to Walt Disney World this past weekend for the Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando.
The West girls finished 10th, while the boys finished 11th. The team competed against over 30 other teams from around the Southeast.
Julie Ericson led the Lady Wolverines finishing 11th overall in 19:28.97. Kim Gibson was 54th in 21:16.51, Hadley Kanandjeff was 79th in 21:58.79, Gracie Vaughn was 81st in 22:01.43 and Kaitlyn Griffith finished 88th in 22:14.88.
John Green led the boys team finishing 37th in 17:30.47. Austin Shea was right behind Green finishing 43rd in 17:37.50, Brian Skoglin was 53rd in 17:51.49, Josh Harrison was 69th in 18:20.88 and Daniel Sexton was 73rd in 18:26.06.
Lambert strong at Furman: The Longhorns boys and girls cross country teams came back Saturday from the Furman Gene Mullin Invitational in Greenville, S.C., with the same result.
Both teams finished 10th out of over 34 teams, the third straight race they’ve tied.
Noah Schaich led the boys finishing 26th in 16:35.98. Other top runners for Lambert were Jonathan Schwind (37th, 16:47.47), Hank Grogan (69th, 17:27.87), Christopher Scharp (82nd, 17:37.71) and Byron Grogan (88th, 17:42.84).
Freshman Mae McKenna led the Lady Longhorns finishing 28th in 19:51.33. Lambert also got strong races from Madeline Gilleland (31st, 20:01.25), Jamie Angle (48th, 20:32.80), Abby Fox (91st, 21:14.55) and Julia Parks (109th, 21:38.23).
Pinecrest goes to Furman: Jessica Zalzman had another impressive run this past Saturday.
The Lady Paladins’ senior finished 21st out of 261 runners at the Furman Gene Mullin Invitational. Zalzman cross the finish line in 19:41.16.
Maria Carroll also ran for the Lady Paladins finishing 84th in 21:05.78.
Grant Mulac led the boys team finishing 222nd in 19:41.67. Other leaders for Pinecrest were Dominic Piron (259th, 20:32.47), Alfonzo Villarreal (271st, 21:01.14), Chris Gilligan (21:10.48) and Simon Cassar (279th, 21:39.24).
