PREP ROUNDUP: Lambert boys nearly stun second-seeded Norcross

Lambert's boys basketball team took a 23-16 lead into halftime against No. 2 Norcross on Thursday, but the Blue Devils woke up in the second half, outscoring the Longhorns 50-26 after the break to survive the upset attempt, 66-49.

Senior Colin Granger finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while senior Will Baker had 14 points.

The Longhorns finish the season 18-10.

Berkmar 62, West Forsyth 29

Berkmar outscored West Forsyth 42-15 in the second half Thursday on its way to a 62-29 drubbing in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs.

West Forsyth ends the season 18-11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Brookwood 75, South Forsyth 60

Brookwood raced past South Forsyth in the first round of the Class 7A tournament Thursday, 75-60.

The War Eagles finish the season 18-11.

Norcross 37, West Forsyth 31

Top-seeded Norcross stifled West Forsyth on Thursday, 37-31, as the Wolverines matched their season low for points.

West Forsyth held a 20-16 lead at halftime, but the Blue Devils put the clamps on the Wolverines' offense in the second half, holding them to just 11 points after halftime.

West Forsyth ends the season 20-8.

BOYS SOCCER

Pinecrest Academy 3, St. Francis 1

Pinecrest Academy remained undefeated on the season Thursday, topping St. Francis 3-1.

The Paladins received first-half goals from Jake Lair, Arturo Mungia and Sebastian Santa Mario on their way to a 3-0 halftime lead.

Lambert 0, Brookwood 0 (7-6, Lambert)

It took eight rounds on penalty kicks, but Lambert managed to squeak past Brookwood on Thursday, 7-6.

The Longhorns (3-0) will travel to North Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

North Forsyth 3, Fannin 1

Michael Silva netted a penalty kick to put the Raiders ahead, then Ventura Soto tacked on another in the final seconds Thursday as the Raiders eased past Fannin, 3-1.

Soto's goal was assisted by Christian Pedraza. Conner Martin scored the equalizer early in the second half. Keeper Alberto Rangel-Castro posted six saves for the Raiders.

North Forsyth (2-1) will host Lambert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

GIRLS SOCCER

Pinecrest Academy 10, St. Francis 0

Pinecrest Academy dominated St. Francis on Thursday, 10-0, behind five goals from sophomore Ivey Crain.

Lambert 2, Brookwood 0

Lambert improved to 3-0 Thursday with a 2-0 win against Brookwood.

Ellie Christensen started the scoring in the first half with a goal off a corner kick from Sydney Hennessey, then Christensen assisted on a Maddie Haugen goal with three minutes left in the game.

The Longhorns will travel to North Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

North Forsyth 1, Fannin 1

North Forsyth earned a draw against Fannin on Thursday, 1-1.

Lexi Jane Lomax scored the Raiders' lone goal, which was assisted by Kayleee Baldwin. Keeper Heidi Williford had seven saves.

The Raiders (1-1-1) will host Lambert at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 21.
