MILTON – The Lambert boys soccer team clinched a share of the Region 5-7A championship Monday with a 6-0 victory over Milton on the road.
The Longhorns are co-region champions with South Forsyth, who both finished 9-1 in region play, for the second straight season. And like last season, Lambert will again be the No. 1 seed for the Class 7A state playoffs, while South will be the No. 2, for scoring more goals in region play.
Both will host their first-round matches when the state playoffs begin Wednesday, April 25.
The Longhorns got two goals each from Jay Patterson and Logan Racine and also got goals from Thomas Powers and Trey Hines.
North Forsyth 2, Milton 1
Tyler Fairchild threw 6 2/3 strong innings as the Raiders earned a Region 5-7A victory Monday at home.
Fairchild got the win by limiting Milton to one run on four walks and three hits while striking out seven for North (20-8, 7-6). Tucker Daniel got the last out to earn the save.
Colin Sanders went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI, while Carter Mullikin drove in the Raiders’ other run.
Pinecrest Academy 6, Brookstone 2
Ben Gobbel had three hits including a double as the Paladins earned a non-region victory Monday at home.
Patrick O’Rourke got the win for Pinecrest (14-12, 7-7 Region 6-1A) with five strikeouts in six innings of work.
Caleb Bohn and Micky Mangan each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
South Forsyth 14, Harrison 8
Max Kane led eight different scorers for the War Eagles with five goals in a non-area victory Monday at home.
Thomas Clark added three goals for South, while Nolan McDonald had two and Jake Hale won 20 of 23 face offs.
