BASEBALL

Brookwood 4, Lambert 3

The Longhorns fell behind in the first inning on Tuesday against the Broncos, and in the bottom half of the fourth, three straight RBI hits put the Longhorns in a 4-0 hole. Lambert was able to draw closer in the sixth with an RBI groundout from Braden Bamburowski and a single from Will Hensley. With the bases loaded, Brentan Newberry was hit by a pitch to bring Nate Gabbert in with two outs, but the Longhorns couldn’t get the one run they needed to tie it up.

Hemmings and Gabbert each went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Asher McAllister took the loss, allowing three earned runs over 3 2/3 innings.

Cherokee 9, Denmark 7

On Tuesday, Cherokee scored at least one run in each of the game’s first four innings against Denmark, but the Danes did enough damage to keep themselves in it. A two-RBI Trevor Byrk double gave the Danes a pair in the second, and in the third, Denmark scored two more to make it 5-4.

The Danes scored three in the fifth after Cherokee answered with four runs in the fourth, but the Warriors hung on for the win. Jack Whitlock went 3-for-3 with two runs scored for the Danes. Byrk went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

West Forsyth 12, Norcross 4

The Wolverines won in blowout fashion on Tuesday against the Blue Devils. West was down 2-0 entering its half of the first, but a two-RBI single from Brock Imbornone tied the game at 2-2 entering the second. The Wolverines scored two more in the fourth before putting the game away with a six-run rally in the fifth, followed by another two runs in the sixth.

Imbornone went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Drew Southern added two RBIs and a run scored with his 1-for-3 performance. Tommy Smith allowed three runs and struck out two over his 5 2/3 innings pitched. Garrett Seitz earned the win in relief.

That was all the Longhorns could get until the sixth, scoring four in that inning on a bases-loaded walk to Kyle Meyers and two errors.

The Longhorns amassed just three hits against Hillgrove and committed four errors. Starter Jimmy Larson pitched three innings and allowed six runs, with just one of them being earned.

Woodstock 2, North Forsyth 0

North collected just three hits in their loss to Woodstock on Wednesday, falling to 6-3 overall.

Woodstock scored one in the first, which was enough for starter Josiah Siegal, who struck out 10 Raiders. North pitchers Jess Ackerman, Noah Gilbert and Brett Barfield combined for 10 strikeouts of their own, but the Raiders’ bats couldn’t do enough to back them up. Sammy Gore, Miles Hartsfield and Garrett Staton had one hit each.

Pinecrest Academy 13, Walker 4

The Paladins’ bats were productive in their win against Walker on Wednesday, racking up 13 hits. Walker claimed a slim 3-2 lead after the second, but Pinecrest took advantage of four errors and did more than enough at the plate in the late innings, scoring four in the sixth and seventh innings.

Caleb Bohn led the Paladins with five RBIs, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Mason Carter brought in four runs with his 3-for-5 performance.
