PREP ROUNDUP: Lambert softball cruises to win in region-opener

The Lady Longhorns invoked the 15-run mercy rule in the fourth inning to trounce Region 6-AAAAAA foe Johns Creek 15-0 at the Gladiator’s field.

Lambert rattled off eight runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone before improving to 6-0, 1-0 on the season. Savannah Huffstetler tagged the Lady Gladiators with five RBIs and Zoe Miller had two, while Maddie Butz, Marissa Guimbarda, Macy Stovall, Rachel Ross each knocked in a run.

Kassie Howard commanded the circle, as she gave up just one hit in four innings of work. Howard threw 49 pitches, 39 of which were strikes.

The Lady Longhorns have now outscored their opponents 64-10.

North Forsyth 9, Chattahoochee 1

North jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the third inning and never looked back, as they started Region 6-AAAAAA play with an 8-run mercy-rule win at Chattahoochee in five innings.

The Lady Raiders tallied two RBIs from Andrea Coleman, while Sydney Turner and Bailey Rivers added a run. Lea Ann Porter pitched three innings before being replaced by Coleman.

North improved to 1-4, 1-0 on the season.

South Forsyth 19, Centennial 2

South breezed past Centennial 19-2 with the help of 14 walks. The Lady War Eagles were led by sophomore Natalie Strandquist, who finished the game with a triple, three runs and three RBIs.

Freshman Katherine Huey paced the team in the circle allowing only one earned run and also helped herself at the plate. Huey finished the day 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs along with two walks.

The Lady War Eagles are now 3-0, 1-0.


West takes two

The Lady Wolverines went 2-1 in a non-area tri-match at home on Tuesday.

West (4-3) defeated Cherokee 25-18, 25-18 and Meadowcreek 25-17, 25-17 while losing in three sets to Creekview 25-17, 23-25, 25-13.

Jaz Berry led the Lady Wolverines with 16 kills and seven aces. Shelby Lance added 11 kills and three aces. Chloe Tyler had a team-high 27 digs, while Gabby Bachner had 22 assists and six kills.

North gets sweep

The Lady Raiders won a pair of non-area matches at home on Tuesday.

North defeated Lumpkin County 25-23, 25-23 and Wheeler 25-18, 20-25, 25-19.

Lambert splits

The Lady Longhorns split a pair of non-area matches on the road on Tuesday.

Lambert defeated Archer 25-13, 25-13 and lost to North Gwinnett 25-14, 25-21.

Brittyn Moellering led the Lady Longhorns in kills, Geneva Rumer led the team in blocks and Brie Lancaster paced the team in assists.

Central gets swept

The Lady Bulldogs dropped a pair of non-area matches on the road on Tuesday.

Central lost to Centennial 25-17, 25-18 and River Ridge 25-11, 25-18.
