PREP ROUNDUP: Lambert softball defeats West to secure No. 1 seed

The Lady Longhorns secured their No.1-seed for the Region 6-AAAAAA tournament with a 10-2 home win on Tuesday over West Forsyth.

Kassie Howard pitched a complete game for Lambert, allowing just four hits and struck out seven. Howard also provided some offensive flare with a team-high four RBIs. Jenny Barto added a two-run home run, while three others tacked on an RBI.

Lambert (25-2, 12-1) will finish the regular season on Thursday at North Forsyth and West (16-8, 10-3) will play at Chattahoochee.

South Forsyth 6, North Forsyth 1: Katherine Huey owned the circle in South Forsyth’s win over North Forsyth at home on Tuesday, pitching all seven innings, giving up two hits, striking out eight and didn’t allow an earned run.

Sophia Tapia paced the Lady War Eagles with a home run and two RBIs, while three more players knocked in a run.

North (13-8, 9-4 Region 6-AAAAAA) plays Lambert on Thursday at home and South will host Johns Creek.

Forsyth Central 3, Riverwood 0: Forsyth Central’s two-run sixth inning was enough to topple Riverwood.

Rachel Karlan (4-for-4, 1 RBI), Carrlyn Kiser (1 RBI) and Alexa Hull (4-for-4, 1 RBI) led the Lady Bulldogs to the win on Tuesday at Riverwood.

Kiser earned the shutout pitching for Central (13-9, 6-4 Region 7-AAAAA), including 11 strikeouts and only two hits. The Lady Bulldogs have now won six of their last eight games.


South secures No. 1: The Lady War Eagles secured the top seed in next week’s Area 5-AAAAAA tournament.

South (41-7) swept Chattahoochee (25-22, 20-25, 25-23) and Duluth (25-17, 25-10) in a tri-match on the road.

Taylor Svehla led the Lady War Eagles with 15 kills. Troy Wright had a team-high 24 digs. Kelli McCravy led the team with 34 assists, while Amanda Nugent had a team-high four aces to go along with seven kills

Other top players for South were Rachel Croce (10 kills, 17 digs), Jordan Hawk (seven kills), Hannah Shanley (15 digs) and Hannah Larson (13 assists).

Lambert hangs tough: The Lady Longhorns went 1-2 at an Area 5-AAAAAA tri-match.

Lambert defeated West Forsyth (25-18, 20-25, 25-18) and lost to Johns Creek (25-14, 18-25, 25-15) and Centennial (25-19, 26-24).

The Lady Longhorns were led by Savannah Oaks who had a team-high 22 kills and 18 digs. Kendal Barrett led the team with 56 assists, while Brittyn Moellering had 18 kills and four digs and Rachel Mannion had eight kills.

Pinecrest sweeps: The Lady Paladins swept an Area 5-A tri-match to secure the No. 3 seed in next week’s area tournament.

Pinecrest (20-13, 6-2) defeated Pace Academy (26-24, 28-26) and Mt. Vernon Presbyterian (25-12, 25-11).

Gabby Wesemeyer led the Lady Paladins with 11 kills.

West swept: The Lady Wolverines lost three matches in an Area 5-AAAAAA tri-match.

West (17-22) lost to Centennial (25-15, 25-19), Johns Creek (25-8, 25-7) and Lambert (25-18, 20-25, 25-18).

Savannah Butler led the Lady Wolverines with 15 kills. Shelby Lance added 11 kills, four aces and three blocks. Jordan Leitch had a team-high 23 assists with four aces and four kills.

Other top players for West were Alyssa Robertson (21 digs), Makena Burns (seven kills) and Gabby Bachner (19 assists, six kills).
