PREP ROUNDUP: Lambert softball wins wild one in extras; volleyball splits Thursday matches
Lambert softball beats West in crazy extra-inning affair

The Lambert softball team handed West Forsyth a loss in a dramatic 12-inning contest on Thursday night, sending the Wolverines to the bottom of the Region 5-7A standings.

The Longhorns and Wolverines were tied at four runs apiece from the third inning until the ninth, but both teams scored five runs in the 11th, with a Longhorns error with two outs in the bottom of that frame allowing West to score two runs to tie the game.

An RBI double from Lindsey Nelson and a sacrifice fly from Allie Sewell in the 12th gave Lambert (5-6, 2-2 Region 5-7A) the lead, and while the Wolverines (8-7, 1-3) scored a run with one out in the 12th and had runners on second and third, Longhorns pitcher Brooke Miller induced a pop-out and groundout to complete her 12-inning complete game.

South Forsyth failed to hold an early 3-0 lead in its game against Milton on Thursday evening, falling 4-3 to the Eagles on a walk-off double in the eighth inning.

Makenna Segal continued her run of dominance for the War Eagles, notching two hits, including a home run, from the leadoff spot, but she was the only South hitter with more than two knocks. Lauren Baccari took the loss but had a strong outing overall, with 11 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. The War Eagles dropped to 4-6, 2-2 with the defeat.

Denmark fell to West Hall on Thursday, surrendering 15 runs in three innings to fall 15-3. Jessie DeNardo had two hits, including a double, for the Danes (2-8, 1-3 Region 7-4A).
