Lambert volleyball sweeps in Sequoyah Classic; North, West split matches

The Lambert volleyball team won both of its matches in the Sequoyah Classic on Friday, beating Cherokee 25-14, 25-16 and Northside Columbus 25-12, 23-25, 15-12.

Ally Hall led the Longhorns with 24 kills on the night, totaling nine against Cherokee and 15 against Northside. Lael White had 12 assists in the first match and 17 in the second, and Bella Tolone was strong on service and defense, with seven aces and 13 digs between the two matches

North Forsyth, playing in the same tournament, split its two matches, beating Kell 24-26, 25-17, 15-12 and losing to Allatoona 20-25, 18-25.

West Forsyth, hosting a tournament in its home gym, won three of its four matches, beating Harris County 25-12, 25-19; beating Northview 21-25, 25-17, 15-10; beating North Hall 25-22, 25-18; and losing to Harris County 25-17, 26-28, 8-15.

Annie Veldhuis led the Wolveriens on offense, totaling 26 kills between the matches. Katie Craze had 33 digs, and Olivia Moody had a balanced effort with 82 assists and 19 digs.

North, West, Lambert drop Friday softball games

The North Forsyth softball team lost its season opener 5-4 to Bremen on Friday despite mounting a potential comeback in the bottom of the fifth. McKayla Cothran and Abby Martin both had multi-hit games for the Raiders, with Martin’s contributions being a double and a home run.

West Forsyth had its game against Mill Creek tied at 1-1 heading into the sixth inning, but the Hawks put a run across in the top of that frame and then two more in the top of the seventh to win 4-1 and spoil West’s opener. Lindsey Andrews had two hits for West, and Avery Wassilchak threw two scoreless innings after Hannah Guthrie tossed three to open the contest.

Lambert fell to North Gwinnett 6-1, with the Bulldogs scoring two runs in the first and four in the second off Longhorns starter Brooke Miller. Miller also hit leadoff for Lambert and had the team’s lone RBI.
