KENNESAW – Kennesaw Mountain pitcher and Clemson-signee Ryley Gillam held Lambert baseball to just one hit and dealt the Longhorns a 3-0 loss Friday in a non-region game on the road.

Nick Guimbarda had the lone hit for the Longhorns (3-1), who hadn’t lost a regular season game since April 27, 2013. Gillam went the distance for Kennesaw Mountain, striking out 11. He didn’t allow a Lambert player to reach base after the third inning.

“Ultimately when you don’t swing the bats and get runners on base, it’s hard to win,” Lambert head coach Drew Ferrer said. “We just ran into a kid who threw very well tonight.”

Lambert entered the game as the No. 1-ranked team in the country according to virtually every national publication. That’s likely to change after Friday.

“Last year we had two losses and came away with what we wanted,” Ferrer said. “Now the second part of the season gets started with region play on Monday.”

Brookstone 14, Pinecrest 5: Andres Perez went 2-for-3 but the Paladins (1-3) dropped a non-region game Friday at home.

Forsyth Central 5, Cambridge 2: In Milton, Logan Howard pitched a complete game to lead the Bulldogs to a Region 7-AAAAA, Div. B series-clinching victory Friday on the road.
