PREP ROUNDUP: North baseball gets big win over North Hall

North Forsyth baseball got its season started in a big way with a 6-3 win at Class AAA runner-up North Hall on Wednesday in a non-region game.

The Raiders (1-0) were led at the plate by Matthew Heard, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Brant Stark went 1-for-3 with two runs and a solo home run, while Jordan Ecton and Bailey Mauldin added RBIs.

Cody Gottberg earned the win for North allowing just two hits, two walks and one unearned run in three innings. Cory Campbell pitched a hitless two innings with five strikeouts to get the save.


West Forsyth dominated in an 18-3 win over Mountain View on Wednesday in a non-region game.

Monica Martelli led the Lady Wolverines with five goals to goal with one assist.

Erika Cross added two goals and an assist and McKinley Puckett scored two goals and had two assists.

West also got goals from Sarah Grady, Erin Behrhorst, Amelia Steele, Kylie Woodall and Arielle Pagley.


North Forsyth got a season-opening 14-4 win over Forsyth Central on Tuesday in a non-region game at home.

Patrick Scales led the Raiders (1-0) with five goals and one assist. Garrett Patterson had three goals and two assists, Nick Alo had two goals while Louis Castell, Jack Connaughton, Justin Gibson, Colin O’Connor and Robbie Tuttle each scored a goal.

Connaughton also had three assists, while Castell and O’Connor had two assists a piece.


Lambert 2, North Gwinnett 0: The Lady Longhorns got a big of revenge Wednesday with a win over the team that knocked it out of the state tournament last season.

Lambert improved to 2-1.

Taylor Kemmeling gave the Lady Horns a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when she scored off a free kick by Delany Rechalos.

Bailey Frederking gave Lambert the cushion it needed when she scored on a header off a corner kick by Emily Haugen.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordyn Ebert earned the shutout for the Lady Horns, who return to action Tuesday against Starr’s Mill.


Lambert 3, Mill Creek 2: The Lady Horns edged Mill Creek on Wednesday in a non-region match at home.

Brenna Reilly’s win at No. 1 singles was the highlight of the match as she outlasted her opponent with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 victory.

Caroline Wakefield won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Jess Owen and Lauren Townsend won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

West 5, Central 0: The Lady Wolverines remained undefeated with a dominating win Wednesday on the road.

West improved to 2-0.

West’s Emma Niemi and Caroline Connelly earned 6-0, 6-0 victories at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Tara Harper gave the Lady Wolverines a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.

Haley Anderson and Meg Moran won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles for West, while Maddie Estes and Lindsay Johnston won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.


West 4, Central 1: The Wolverines got their season started right with a comfortable non-region win Wednesday on the road.

West (1-0) got wins at No. 1 and 2 singles and No. 1 and 2 doubles.

Sophomore Riley Snow was the bright spot for the Bulldogs with a straight-set win at No. 3 singles.

Lambert 5, Mill Creek 0: The Longhorns dominated in a non-region match Wednesday at home.

Lincoln Metz and Will Harper won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 1 and 3 singles, respectively, while Drew Lahey won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Kevin Mayer and Jack Metzger won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
