South Forsyth sophomore Savannah Carnahan finished runner-up at the Warpath Invitational on Saturday at Cherokee to lead the Lady War Eagles to a fourth-place finish out of 26 teams.
Carnahan crossed the finish in 18 minutes 46.51 seconds, just behind Marist’s Morgan Ilse (18:14.89), the defending state champion in Class 4A.
South 138 points in the team standings, just one behind Milton.
Other top runners for the Lady War Eagles were Milicent Bergey (14th, 19:42.52), Savannah Ratcliff (36th, 20:31.58), Olivia Turner (46th, 20:56.54) and Emma Maisel (53rd, 21:10.17).
Forsyth Central sophomore Bonnie McKinnon finished 19th in 20:25.71 as the Lady Bulldogs finished 23rd overall with 655 points.
Other top runners for Central were Lydia Lindsey (139th, 23:54.63), Isabella Clapp (173rd, 25:31.53), Lisa Riscassi (177th, 25:36.39) and Marissa Zernach (184th, 26:07.33).
West girls impress at Carrollton
Behind three top 15 runners, the Lady Wolverines finished third at the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational on Saturday in a precursor to the state meet in November.
Liz Galarza (10th, 20:22.42), Julie Ericson (11th, 20:24) and Haley Anderson (15th, 20:37.24) led West, which finished with 115 points behind Peachtree Ridge (68) and Brookwood (69).
Other top runners for the Lady Wolverines were Kaitlyn Griffith (35th, 21:42.06) and Kim Gibson (43rd, 21:52.18).
West’s boys team finished 16th with 402 points. The Wolverines were led by John Green (57th, 17:51.47), Austin Shea (67th, 17:57.90), Brett Gamon (78th, 18:05.13), Brian Skoglin (90th, 18:14.19) and Brandon LaBour (123rd, 18:32.56).
South boys finish fifth
Ryan Peppenhorst placed ninth in 16:26.83 to lead the War Eagles to a fifth place finish with 180 points at the Warpath Invitational on Saturday at Cherokee.
Other top runners for South were Reed Vaughn (26th, 16:59.80), Jake Howlin (49th, 17:27.12), Zach Coleman (50th, 17:27.44) and Matt Patterson (53rd, 17:28.94).
Forsyth Central sophomore Max Warner finished 19th in 16:50.49 to help the Bulldogs finish 12th with 366 points.
Will Scott (57th, 17:33.24), Charlie Webb (81st, 17:51.86), Cole Gizelbach (101st, 18:13.15) and Will Hasse (116th, 18:22.36) also had strong performances for Central.
