Andres Perez went 2-for-2 with two doubles but it wasn’t enough as the Paladins dropped a non-region game Friday at home.
Ben Gobbel also had two hits for Pinecrest, while Will Patota and Matt Walters each went 1-for-2.
South Forsyth 14, Rockdale County 6
Alex Andronica went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored, a stolen base and three RBI as the War Eagles cruised to a non-region victory Friday at home.
Landon Sims got the win for South, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out six.
The War Eagles also got big performances from Brett Graczyk (1-for-2, 3RBI), Alec Kliphouse (2-for-3, 4R, 2 2B), Connor McKnight (2-for-3, 2R, 2B, RBI) and Trae Dunn (3R, 1 2/3 IP, 0R).
Buford 8, Lambert 7
The Longhorns gave up a four-run lead to drop a non-region game Friday at home.
In a match-up of recent state champions – Lambert won AAAAAA in 2014, Buford won AAAA last season – the Longhorns led 6-2 before Buford scored four in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead.
Lambert tied it at 7-7 with a run in the sixth.
Josh McAllister led the Longhorns (1-1) going 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Blessed Trinity 2, West Forsyth 0
Jay Thompson threw 5 2/3 shutout innings but it wasn’t enough as the Wolverines dropped a non-region game Friday at home.
Thompson struck out nine for West (1-2), which lost after surrendering two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Hank Flood and Bryar Hawkins each had two hits, while the Wolverines also got hits from Mason McWhorter and Jacob Tate.
The loss came on the heels of a 7-2 victory Thursday against North Hall that Hawkins dominated. The junior got the win on the mound, striking out six over four innings, and hit two home runs at the plate with three RBI.
Thomas Arundale added a home run and three RBIs, McWhorter drove in a run and Matthew Moch got the save by escaping a bases-loaded jam by striking out the only two batters he faced.
Other scores: Gainesville 8, North Forsyth 7 (8 innings).
Duluth 9, Forsyth Central 8
Forsyth Central scored three goals in the final three minutes but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs dropped a non-area game Friday.
Wes Bacastow led Central with three goals and an assist. Justin Aspenson had two goals and two assists, while Josh Allen added two goals.
The Bulldogs assisted on seven of their eight goals.
Lambert 18, Peachtree Ridge 1
Conrad McEvoy had five goals and two assists as the Longhorns cruised to a non-area victory Thursday.
Peyton Miller added two goals and an assist for Lambert (3-0), Hunter Clem had two goals and an assist and Alex Walker also scored two goals. The Longhorns also got goals from Eric Overbay, Hayden Barnes, Morgan cone, Matt O’Rourk and Cameron Barnes. Jake Alesia, Harrison Petrovich, Bradley Wehman and Grant Plaugher each had an assist.
Trey Arnold won 15 of 17 faceoffs to go along with two goals and six groundballs, and goalie Ben Stump made seven saves.
Pinecrest Academy 8, Walker 3
Carson Holler had two goals as the Paladins earned a non-area victory Friday at home to remain undefeated on the season.
Wills Brown also scored two goals for Pinecrest (3-0).
Garrison Winter had 11 saves.
West Forsyth 14, Northview 12
Jimmy Martelli and Reed Bagwell each scored three goals as the Wolverines earned an Area 3-AAAAAA victory Friday at home.
The win was a significant one for the Wolverines (4-0, 1-0), who lost 19-11 to Northview, the 2014 Class A/AAAAA state champion, last season.
Brooks Barber and Erik Hipe each added two goals apiece.
Lambert 1, Chattahoochee 0
Maddie Eddleman scored the Lady Longhorns in a Region 6-AAAAAA victory Friday at home.
No. 2-ranked Lambert improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the region.
South Forsyth 10, Habersham Central 0
Reagan Smith had a hat-trick and the Lady War Eagles cruised to a Region 6-AAAAAA victory Friday.
Nikki Bario and Jenna Vollrath each added two goals for South (4-0, 1-0), while the Lady War Eagles also got goals from Payton Schurr, Meagan Postell and Gabby Tanjuatco.
Chattahoochee 3, Lambert 1
Logan Racine scored the lone goal for the Longhorns who dropped a Region 6-AAAAAA game Friday at home.
Racine scored with 7:19 left in the game for Lambert (3-2, 0-1) on a header from a pass by Jacob Merrill to cut Chattahoochee’s lead to 2-1.
But the No. 3-ranked Cougars immediately answered with a goal on a cornerkick.
Other scores: Habersham Central 0 (1), South Forsyth 0 (0).
