PREP ROUNDUP: West Forsyth boys stay hot with win over Brookwood

West Forsyth picked up a non-region win Saturday, beating Brookwood 70-49.

Junior Broc Bidwell exploded for 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and two assists. Senior Joseph Staiti nearly had a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds, adding two blocks and a pair of assists. Seniors Jack Bock and Nick Zabetakis each had nine points, while senior Zack Zabetakis had five steals.

The Wolverines (12-3, 2-0 Region 5-7A) will travel to South Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Roswell 61, North Forsyth 44

North Forsyth dropped Saturday’s game against Roswell, 61-44.

Senior Cory Seitz led the Raiders with 16 points, and North Forsyth trailed by just four points at halftime, but Roswell used a 31-point second half to pull away late.

The Raiders (5-12, 0-2 Region 5-7A) will host Milton at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Francis 80, Pinecrest 45

Pinecrest fell to St. Francis 80-45 Saturday. Four-star point guard and Xavier commit Dwon Odom had 21 points for the Knights.

Pinecrest (8-7, 4-3 Region 6-1A Private) will travel to Whitefield Academy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

West Forsyth 59, Brookwood 45

West Forsyth bounced back from its first loss of the season Saturday, topping Brookwood 59-45.

The Wolverines carried a 28-18 lead into halftime and managed to withstand a second-half surge by the Broncos.

West Forsyth (14-1, 2-0 Region 5-7A) will travel to South Forsyth at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

North Forsyth 45, Roswell 27

North Forsyth smothered Roswell during Saturday’s 45-27 win, holding the Hornets to a season-low 27 points.

Senior Ansley Allen led the Raiders with 15 points, while senior Caroline Martin added nine, and junior Lily Bales and sophomore Anna Gliatta each had eight points.

North Forsyth (15-2, 1-1 Region 5-7A) will carry its eight-game winning streak into Tuesday’s 6 p.m. tilt against Milton.

Lambert 61, Denmark 59

Lambert picked up its sixth win of the season Saturday, beating Denmark in overtime, 61-59.

Freshman Briley Edler led the Longhorns with 23 points, while senior Anna Jackson added 12 points and junior Lauren Houston chipped in 10 points.

Freshman Ellery Campbell led the Danes with 18 points, adding six rebounds. Sophomore Sophie Smith finished with 17 points, three assists and two steals, and sophomore Jessie DeNardo collected 10 rebounds and three steals.

Lambert (6-8, 1-1 Region 5-7A) will host Forsyth Central at 6 p.m. Tuesday, while Denmark (6-11, 2-3 Region 7-4A) will travel to Marist at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Francis 95, Pinecrest 29

St. Francis held a 42-8 lead by the end of the first quarter Saturday, as the Knights pummeled Pinecrest 95-29.

Pinecrest (2-11, 0-5 Region 6-1A Private) will travel to Whitefield Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

WRESTLING

Joseph Metz wins at The Prep Slam

Pinecrest senior Joseph Metz won an individual championship at 160 pounds Saturday, winning in triple overtime against Omaury Alvarez from Baylor School (Tenn.), 3-2.

Forsyth Central has 6 placers at Hook ‘Em Invitational

Forsyth Central senior Branden Redecker led the Bulldogs with a second-place finish in the 220-pound weight class Saturday at the Hook ‘Em Invitational at Lambert High School. Junior Mikel Stowers (138) placed third, juniors Darius Green (285) and Avery Krippner (170) finished fourth, Luis Mier (182) finished fifth and Zac Redecker (195) placed sixth. Overall, the Bulldogs finished seventh in team score.
