PREP ROUNDUP: West, Lambert softball teams walk off; county volleyball teams compete at tournaments

Forsyth Central 3, Buford 2

The Bulldogs fell behind early against the error-prone Wolves on Thursday, but tied the game at 1-1 in the second on a groundout from Emma Ohrstrom. Buford took a one-run lead in the fifth, but Central scored two in the bottom half of the sixth to take the win, with Maddie Smith singling in the winning run. Bailey McCachren earned the win in the circle, striking out five over six innings.

North Gwinnett 6, Forsyth Central 1

Central was able to keep its game against North Gwinnett scoreless through the first three innings on Thursday afternoon, but after two straight three-run innings, the Bulldogs were playing catch-up for the rest of the game. Central scored one run in the sixth on a Lauren Wall single that scored Maddie Smith.

Cambridge 6, West Forsyth 5

The Wolverines fell behind Cambridge 5-0 by the fifth inning, but almost came back to tie the game on Thursday. Grace Mangan hit an RBI single in the fifth to score Caroline Hayes, and down 5-1 in the top of the seventh, West scored four runs with the help of two errors but could not complete the comeback.

Denmark 17, Fannin County 4

The Danes improved to 3-0 overall with another blowout win over Fannin County on Thursday. Denmark scored five runs in the first inning, four in the third, and six in the fourth to end the game after five innings. Ellery Campbell led Denmark with three RBIs, while Kayla Smith, Jessie DeNardo and Taylor Gajdik had two each.

South Forsyth 9, Social Circle 4

The War Eagles took a decisive win over the Redskins on Thursday, scoring seven of their nine runs in the first two innings. Isabel Hui and Chloe Traynor finished with four and three RBIs, respectively.

South Forsyth 6, Peachtree Ridge 0

South faced the Lions in their second game of Thursday night, scoring two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to improve to 4-1 overall. Isabel Hui went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Hannah Marchman struck out two over five scoreless innings.

North Forsyth 11, Mount Zion 4

The Raiders overmatched Mount Zion in their 2019 season opener on Friday, scoring seven runs in the game's first three innings. Mallorie Black and Hailey Mize brought in three runs each, with each of them going 2-for-3. Sarah Lowe earned the win in the circle for North, striking out two and allowing three runs over her four innings pitched.

Lambert 4, Parkview 3

Lambert fell behind the Panthers in the first inning on Friday and entered the bottom of the fourth inning down 4-0. However, the Longhorns scored four in the last two innings to take the walk-off win, with Anna Jackson hitting a two-run home run to secure the win. Jackson had all four of Lambert's RBIs, going 2-for-2.

Collins Hill 6, West Forsyth 2

West took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Collins Hill plated six in the last three innings to take the win on Saturday. Emily Brown and Riley Ramirez drove in a run apiece for the Wolverines.

West Forsyth 6, Etowah 5

Etowah jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Saturday, but despite only finishing with three hits, the Wolverines scored six runs over the last four innings, with Grace Mangan notching a walk-off triple to win the game for West. Caroline Hayes brought in two more runs for the Wolverines, going 1-for-3.

North Forsyth 7, Newnan 0

The Raiders breezed to a win against Newnan on Saturday afternoon. Mallorie Black and Sarah Lowe combined for five RBIs for North.

North Forsyth 14, North Oconee 0

North made quick work of North Oconee on Saturday to improve to 3-0, with the contest ending due to the run rule after four innings. Mallorie Black and Lauren Fields plated seven combined runners.

Peachtree Ridge 9, Lambert 8

Lambert got off to a good start against the Lions on Saturday by going up 4-1 after two innings, but a six-run fourth from Peachtree Ridge put them ahead, and the Longhorns could not come back. Allie Sewell and Kirsten Cowart brought in three runs each.

North Gwinnett 10, Lambert 4

The Longhorns jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Bulldogs on Saturday, but nine North Gwinnett runs in the fourth and fifth secured Lambert's second loss of the day.


West Forsyth 2, Cambridge 1

The Wolverines beat the Bears 25-22, 21-25, 15-2 on Thursday to earn their second win of the season.

North Forsyth 2, Lumpkin County 0

The Raiders won their season opener against the Indians 25-10, 25-22 on Thursday.

North Forsyth 2, West Hall 1

North beat West Hall 25-23, 19-25, 15-9 on Thursday.

North Forsyth 2, Woodland 0

North defeated Woodland 25-13, 25-9 to improve to 3-0 overall on Thursday.

South Forsyth at Sequoyah Classic

The War Eagles went 4-1 in the Sequoyah Classic on Friday and Saturday, defeating Marietta, Heritage, River Ridge and Norcross before falling 2-1 to Allatoona. South stands at 5-2 overall to start the season.

Denmark 2, Cambridge 1

Denmark earned its first win of the season against the Bears on Thursday, 25-17, 24-26, 15-9.

Denmark at Sequoyah Classic

The Danes fell 2-0 in all three of their games at the Sequoyah Classic to Hillgrove, Etowah and East Coweta. Denmark is now 1-4 overall.

West Forsyth at North Gwinnett Bulldog Bash

The Wolverines dropped  all three of their games at the Bulldog Bash at North Gwinnett, falling to St. Pius X Catholic, Greater Atlanta Christian and Chattahoochee. West is now 2-3 overall.

Forsyth Central at Appalachee tournament

The Bulldogs went 1-2 at a weekend tournament at Apalachee High School, beating Mt. Bethel Chrtistian 2-1 but losing to Northgate and Loganville. Central enters the second week of the season with a 3-2 overall record.
