In the past two months, the 8-Under Sharon Springs Blue Spartans softball team has done a lot of winning.

The girls won the Georgia USSSA Fast-pitch championship on June 30 and then won the USSSA Fast-pitch World Series on July 20.

The Spartans went a perfect 7-0 in the Georgia championship tournament, defeating Twin Creeks Twisters, 9-8, in eight innings in the championship game.

Then, they beat Hartselle Alabama, 14-11, to win the World Series championship game to cap another perfect 7-0 tournament run. Marissa Ashton was named World Series MVP, Savannah Sabo was named the Tourney Defensive MVP and Avery Callaway was named the World Series Outstanding Pitcher. Abigail Dotson, Maggie Thompson, Kennedy Ariail and Carsyn Fink were named to the World Series All-Tournament team.

It was a fitting end for the team, which won five tournaments over the season, including its fourth Forsyth County Championship in a row.

"Our girls played for the name on the front of their jersey, and not the name on the back of it," said Eric Ashton. "I have never been prouder of a team in all of my years coaching. They sacrificed their summer and these girls will be part of a high school state championship down the road."
