Kassidy Krupit became a national champion this week, and she didn’t have to go very far to do it.
The 18U East Cobb Bullets Gold-Schnute team from Marietta, which features Krupit and North Forsyth alumna Haley Simpson – although Simpson didn’t play in this tournament – took home the 18U Triple Crown/USA Nationals championship on Thursday afternoon. That tournament, along with coinciding 14U and 16U events, was held at parks in Forsyth County.
The Bullets did not take a single loss throughout their run to the title, moving through pool play and the double elimination bracket and advancing to the single elimination bracket by defeating Georgia Impact, 5-3. The Bullets faced the Texas Bombers at Fowler Park for the championship game and came away with a title-clinching 20-8 win.
Other teams from the area placed well in the tournament. The 14U East Cobb Bullets finished as runners-up, falling just short of that age group’s championship with a 3-0 loss to the SoCal Choppers.
In the 16U category, the Atlanta Vipers from Cumming won their double elimination bracket by defeating the Jacksonville Storm 9-1. They earned a first round bye in the next round, but bowed out in their first game of the championship bracket.
