LAWRENCEVILLE – Micky Mangan went 2-for-3 with a double but it wasn’t enough as Pinecrest dropped a Region 6-A game Saturday at Coolray Field, home of the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A affiliate.
Ben Gobbel also went 2-for-3 for Pinecrest, while Matt Walters was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Will Patota went 1-for-2 with a run and a walk.
South Forsyth 10, Peachtree Ridge 0
Brett Graczyk went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI as the War Eagles cruised to a non-region victory in five innings Saturday at home.
Alec Kliphouse got the win for South (4-0), throwing five shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Kliphouse allowed just two hits and walked two.
Max Schmal went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Alex Andronica was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
The War Eagles also got contributions from Matt Cunningham and Grant Pearce, who both went 1-for-3 with a double and RBI.
Lambert wins Coal Mountain Classic
Grant Sutliff had a team-high 38 points as Lambert won the Coal Mountain Classic at Hampton Country Club on Saturday in a stable ford tournament.
Lambert’s team of Sutliff, Brett Barron (37), Jordan Baker (36), Spencer Ball (34), Mitchell Taylor (34) and William Kang (32) also placed in the top eight.
Lambert wins season-opener
GAINESVILLE – Lauren Lightfritz shot a 1-under 71 as the three-time defending Class AAAAAA champion Lady Longhorns won the Lady Wolves Invitational at Chicopee Woods.
Lambert shot a 221, well-ahead of runner-up Woodward Academy (251) and third-place Columbus (257). South Forsyth shot a 264.
The Lady Longhorns also got big days from Kayley Marschke (76), Christine McDonnell (74) and Alison Crenshaw (78).
Lambert 10, Allatoona 8
Eric Overbay had three goals and an assist as the Longhorns earned an impressive non-area victory Saturday at home.
Johnny DiVirgilio added two goals and an assist for No. 3-ranked Lambert (4-0), while Conrad McEvoy had two goals.
The Longhorns also got goals from Alex Walker, Grant Plaugher and Trevor Holmes, while Matt O’Rourk and Peyton Miller each had an assist.
Goalie Ben Stump made 10 saves, and Jaryd Jean-Felix had a team-high six groundballs.
North Forsyth 13, Sequoyah 1
Jacob Day had 10 saves in goal as the Raiders cruised to a non-area victory Saturday at home.
Colton Rudd led North (2-2, 0-1 Area 3-AAAAAA) with four goals to go along with an assist. Tucker Brady scored three goals, and Chase Chapman and Evan Smith each had two goals and two assists. The Raiders also got goals from Mason Jolley, Sam Grogan and Tucker Davis.
Shaun Herock won 83 percent of his faceoffs, while Nick Alo won 50 percent.
Johns Creek 16, South Forsyth 5
JOHNS CREEK – Reed Garnen had two goals and an assist but it wasn’t enough as the War Eagles dropped an Area 3-AAAAAA game Saturday on the road.
Andrew Lempner added two goals for South (1-2, 0-1), while Drew Thomson had a goal.
