MABLETON – The dual quarterback threat of Cole Peterson and Davis Eaton were unstoppable and they led Whitefield Academy to a 20-6 victory over Pinecrest Academy at Whitefield Stadium on Friday.
Peterson had threw for 103 yards and a touchdown, while Eaton threw for 105 yards and a score.
“That was a dog fight and we knew coming into this game just how good that team really is,” Whitefield coach Coleman Joiner said. “Pinecrest played well going into this game and gave us some trouble in the first quarter. We have to protect the football and we can’t have as many turnovers as we had. The defense held them to six and I am super proud of my quarterbacks.”
Whitefield got on the board first with a 25-yard field goal by Matthew Sumlin with 3:28 left in the first quarter.
The Paladins answered with a 37-yard field goal late in the second quarter. Eaton connected with Rees Pickell on a 9-yard touchdown pass right before halftime to extend their lead 13-3.
The Wolfpack finally pulled ahead after Peterson connected with Pickell for a 70-yard touchdown pass with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter. Pinecrest’s last score came on a 38-yard field goal.
Whitefield’s Eric Little finished the game with 100 yards rushing. Pickell had 92 yards receiving and Kyle Holt finished the game with 68.
Ryan Difazio finished the game with 70 yards passing for the Paladins and Pinecrest offense finished with 87 yards rushing.
