JOHNS CREEK — South Forsyth—the highest-scoring girls team in Region 6-AAAAAA—got back to their swarming defensive style Friday night that had been lacking earlier in the week.

Lady War Eagles coach Keith Gravitt wasn’t thrilled after Wednesday’s win over Northview; South allowed 30 first-half points, after giving up 20 first-half points in two meetings combined with the Lady Titans this year.

Sarah Myers led the Lady War Eagles’ defensive charge Friday night. Myers tallied five steals in the first 16 minutes and scored a game-high 19 as South built a 30-point halftime lead and beat Lambert, 53-27, to set up another meeting with North Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

“I think the girls brought the kind of intensity they like to play with tonight,” South coach Keith Gravitt said. “More than anything, it was about getting back to the level of effort we’re used to.”

South led, 17-4, after one quarter; the Lady War Eagles effectively sealed a berth in the championship game with a 10-0 run, capped by a KK Storms (11 points) three-pointer, to open the second quarter.

“It’s cliché, but beating one team three times in a season is difficult,” Gravitt said. “Lambert had won six in a row, they beat West just a couple weeks ago, they’ve been on a roll and they were up for tonight’s game.”

ME Craven and Alex Russell had six points apiece for Lambert. The Lady Longhorns will take on West Forsyth at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in a consolation game to decide the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds out of Region 6.

Myers, Storms and Ally Welch sat out parts of the third quarter and nearly the entire fourth quarter, resting in preparation for what will be a repeat of last season’s region title game, won by North.

“I think you saw it on their faces, what it means to be back here,” Gravitt said. “I think that speaks for itself. North has been here before—this is their fourth straight region title game. There’s a lot of maturity and experience there, but we look forward to the possibilities.”
