When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at War Eagle Stadium in Cumming.

Records, rankings: Mountain View is 0-0 overall, 0-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA and unranked; South is 0-0 overall, 0-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked.

Series history: Mountain View leads 1-0.

Last meeting: Mountain View won 38-31 in 2014.

What to know: The War Eagles need no warnings about how dangerous Mountain View can be, not after surrendering 38 second-half points to the Bears to fall in last season’s opener. Mountain View returns its quarterback, running back Nick Harris (852 yards, 12 TDs), play-making wide receivers Jalen Virgil and Kaiden Smith, an Appalachian State commit, and four starters on the offensive line.

South, meanwhile, has 14 starters to replace, but that may not be so dire. With returning standouts like Jalen Camp, Cameron Kline, Curtis Roach, Sam Outlaw and all-state kicker Alex Barbir, the War Eagles figure to once again be a playoff contender. How quickly new quartberack Davis Shanley and a young offensive line get up to varsity speed will be the big question for South.
