When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Centennial High Stadium in Roswell.

Records, rankings: South is 1-1 and unranked in Class 7A; Centennial is 1-0 and unranked in Class 6A.

Series history: South leads 5-1

Last meeting: South won 21-6 in 2015.

What to know: South Forsyth got back on track last week with a 52-0 win over neighbor Pinecrest Academy. That was after falling 27-14 against Hillgrove in the Corky Kell Classic two weeks earlier.

Going up against a talented Hillgrove team with top-10 potential was a tough measuring stick for a young team, while playing a Class A school like Pinecrest likely didn’t offer any type of litmus test about how much South truly bounced back from its season opener.

This game against Centennial should shed some light. The Knights are a familiar opponent with South, as they shared membership in the Class 6-6A region from the past few seasons. Centennial, which has not had a winning season since 2011, hopes its 36-22 win at Wheeler last week is a sign that the program is on the rise. That result might also be a little deceiving considering Wheeler’s starting quarterback Gabe Magerkurth went down with a leg injury early in the second quarter, trailing 14-7.

Centennial’s Casen Conway had a strong outing last week as well, completing 18 of 23 passes for 232 yards and two touchdown passes.

South should continue to showcase a promising running back rotation with Jake Nicholas, Tyler Bowman and Jared Honey, while also establishing receivers against greater competition. Guy Morra stood out last week with two touchdown receptions. The War Eagles will be short starting offensive lineman Jack Winke, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the season opener.
