South Forsyth’s Tiffany Kang advanced to the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Monday, shooting a 71 in the 18-hole regional qualifier at Cartersville Country Club.
Kang’s 1-under score tied Gracyn Burgess (Lexington, S.C.), Sophie Guo (Bluffington, S.C.), and Clare Amelia Legaspi (Phillipines) for the low round of the 18-hole competition. Kang is one of seven girls in the regional field to qualify to play in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, set to be held at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. July 20 through July 25.
Lambert’s state champs Christine McDonnell (75), Lauren Lightfritz (78), Kayley Marschke (80), and Kate Owens (81) all missed the cut off, while West Forsyth’s Allie Fletcher shot an 89.
The U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship is comprised of amateur golfers who won’t be 18 years old by June 20, and who have an official USGA handicap that doesn’t exceed 18.4.
