MYRTLE BEACH – Sarah Myers had 26 points but it wasn’t enough for South Forsyth girls basketball who lost 78-76 in overtime to Riverside (N.C.) in the consolation championship of the CresCom Bank Invitational on Monday.
The Lady War Eagles (11-2, 6-0 Region 6-AAAAAA) led 41-35 at halftime but couldn’t hold on to the lead and trailed by as much as 77-71 in overtime. South trimmed the lead down to one after a 3-pointer by Caroline Diem and had a chance to take the lead but missed a shot with eight seconds left.
KK Storms added 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals for the Lady War Eagles. Mari Jonassen had 12 points and three steals while Diem added 11 points and five rebounds.
South struggled at the free-throw line, going just 5-for-16.
The game left the Lady War Eagles at 2-2 in the prestigious tournament, one that pitted the No. 3-ranked team in Class AAAAAA against several opponents from around the Southeast.
