South Forsyth at Walton

When, where: Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. at Walton High School in Marietta.

Records, rankings: South is 34-18, the No. 5 seed and ranked No. 5 in Class 7A; Walton is 37-6, the No. 1 seed and ranked No. 1.

Coaches: South is coached by Kelly Wren; Walton is coached by Suzanne Fitzgerald

Last 10 matches: South is 8-2, Walton is 7-3

What to know: South returns nearly the entire core of the team that faced off with Walton in last season's Class 6A state championship, including outside hitter Amanda Nugent, middle hitter Shea McNamara, middle hitter Avery Kline, outside hitter Lily Kincaid, libero Erin Yeatman and defensive specialist Savian Jordan. The senior-laden class enters the match with a combined 15 sets lost and zero sets won against the Lady Raiders, though a strong showing in the third set of last year's state final offered a look into what South's potential could be this time around. Despite losing key pieces from last year, Walton has still been dominant. The Lady Raiders have not lost a single match in the state of Georgia this season and have dropped just two sets to Georgia teams—not coincidentally, to Lambert and Lassiter.
