NORTHWEST FORSYTH – A Cumming man has been charged with murder after the man he is accused of shooting in the chest Thursday afternoon on Memphis Street succumbed to his injuries.

Christopher Puckett, 31, was arrested Oct. 6 for felony murder and aggravated assault and booked into the Forsyth County Jail without bond, according to Cpl. Pete Saballa, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Puckett reportedly shot his former roommate, Jimmy Hendrix, 52, once in the chest during an argument just before 5 p.m.

Drugs and alcohol are not thought to be factors in the incident, Saballa said.

Hendrix was transported to an area hospital after deputies arrived at the 5400 block of Memphis Street, which is near Karr Road and between Dr. Bramblett and John Burruss roads.

He later died from his injuries at the hospital.

On Oct. 6, Cpl. Robin Regan, also a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said multiple 911 calls reported the incident, which occurred in the front yard of the home, where Hendrix lived.

Puckett was scheduled for a first appearance before a judge Friday morning.
