The start of the 2008-09 school year is less than two weeks away.

With that in mind, it's not too early for parents to start figuring out which of the county's 241 school buses their children will ride come Aug. 11.

The quickest way to find bus route information is online, said Garry Puetz, the Forsyth County school system's director of transportation.

The district's Web site (www.forsyth.k12.ga.us) takes users to a map where they can find schools, roads, subdivisions and bus stops by route number.

This year Puetz is readying the department for an anticipated 19,000 passengers, a 1,000-student increase from last year's ridership.

"The first thing that I'd ask (parents) to do is go to the Web page and become familiar with all the links on there," he said.

"If they were familiar with our Web site, I think most of their questions would be answered."

Some questions, such as pickup and drop-off times, can't really be nailed down until school starts.

"It'll be an ongoing thing because every day we're having more students enrolling," he said, adding that parents should check the Web site regularly for updates.

Puetz said parents of kindergarteners may have the chance to ride the bus with their children before school starts, as a part of "Kindergarten Roundup."

A program offered at elementary schools, the roundup is designed to prepare parents for the year. A component of the program is a bus ride to and from school.
