The Lady Longhorns scored two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good in a 4-3 win against North Forsyth on Tuesday at home in a Region 6-AAAAAA game.
Rachel Ross led Lambert (13-1) going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Savannah Huffstetler went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI while Macy Stovall had a hit, a double and scored two runs.
Kassie Howard allowed three runs on six hits and struck out five in seven innings to earn the win.
North (9-6) was led by Breena Gwatlney who was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Sydney Turner went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Andrea Coleman went 1-for-3 with a double.
West Forsyth 6, Chattahoochee 2: The Lady Wolverines cruised behind a big night from Peyton Erb for a Region 6-AAAAAA victory at home.
Erb led West (7-6, 4-2) going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Angie Jordan was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Ella Reitler scored twice. Lauren Bearden was the winning pitcher.
South sweeps area tri-match: The Lady War Eagles continued their strong play in an Area 6-AAAAAA tri-match at Lambert.
South (26-2) defeated West Forsyth 25-12, 25-12 and Lambert 25-19, 16-25, 25-18.
Taylor Svehla led the Lady War Eagles with 20 kills, Jordan Hawk had 18 kills and Kelli McCravy had 53 assists.
Lambert splits home tri-match: The Lady Longhorns split a Region 6-AAAAAA tri-match at home.
Lambert defeated Alpharetta 17-25, 25-18, 25-22 and lost to South 25-19, 16-25, 25-18.
Savannah Oaks led the Lady Longhorns with 33 kills and 17 digs, Brittyn Moellering had 12 digs, Brie Lancaster had 18 assists and Autumn Harrington had six kills and three aces.
Central, North boys run strong: The Bulldogs finished third out of 21 teams with 135 points at the West Hall Invitational on Tuesday. The Raiders finished seventh with 224.
Max Warner led Central finishing fifth in 16 minutes 54.2 seconds. Other top runners for the Bulldogs were Charlie Webb (27th, 18:24), Will Scott (31st, 18:38), Cole Gizelbach (34th, 18:51) and Reese Mitchell (38th, 18:52).
Eric Decker led North finishing 30th in 18:38, followed soon after by Saul Renteria (33rd, 18:51) and Aaron Bohan (18:58). Other top runners for the Raiders were Brady Roose (58th, 19:33) and Ben Strube (64th, 19:44).
McKinnon, North girls impress: Central sophomore Bonnie McKinnon finished fourth overall at the West Hall Invitational while the Lady Raiders finished fifth out of 14 teams with 163 points.
McKinnon earned her top 5 finish in 21:06.9.
Gigi Fulkerson led North with a 12th place finish in 22:53. Other top runners for the Lady Raiders were Brittany Smith (29th, 24:10), Jessica Will (36th, 24:51), Emily Nizialek (39th, 25:03) and Madison Booher (47th, 25:33).
