Soccer: Parker, Griffiths nab top honors on All-Region 5-7A team

By no surprise, Forsyth County swept all the major awards on the All-Region 5-7A girls and boys soccer teams, as selected by the region’s coaches.

West Forsyth senior Carsen Parker and Lambert senior Eoin Griffiths were selected the girls and boys players of the year, respectively, while Lambert’s Scott Luthart and Chris Wilson were named the girls and boys coaches of the year, respectively.

Parker, who signed with Arkansas, was primarily a defender for the Wolverines but still had a team-best 13 goals to help West reach the state playoffs for the second straight season.

Griffiths, who signed with the University of Alabama-Huntsville, had 26 goals and 10 assists for the Longhorns to help Lambert win a share of the region title and advance to the semifinals of the Class 7A state playoffs.

Luthart led the Lambert girls team to a 20-3 record, region title and the program’s first-ever state championship with a 2-1 win over Grayson.

Wilson led the Lambert boys team to a 14-5-1 record, a share of the region title and the quarterfinals of the Class 7A state playoffs.
