SOFTBALL: Central defeats Cambridge in extra innings

Forsyth Central softball scored in the bottom of the eighth for a 3-2 extra-innings victory against Cambridge on Monday at home in a Region 7-AAAAA game.

After holding Cambridge scoreless in the top of the inning, Central's Rachel Karlan bunted Hannah Carpenter to third base who scored a batter later on a wild pitch for the walk-off win. 

The Lady Bulldogs (11-8, 4-3) were led by Caroline Thomas, who pitched a complete game and allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking two.

Marisa Hull led Central at the plate with two of the team’s three hits. Rachel Karlan had Central’s only other hit.

The win pulled the Lady Bulldogs into a tie for fifth place in the region with Northview.

Lambert 8, Alpharetta 2: The Lady Longhorns took an early 6-0 lead and never looked back in a Region 6-AAAAAA victory on the road.

Lambert (22-2, 10-1) scored two runs in the first and four in the second to pull away from Alpharetta.

Savannah Huffstetler led the Lady Longhorns going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Megan Whitlach when 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Macy Stovall and Maddie Butz each added two hits.

Kassie Howard earned the win allowing nine hits and two earned runs over seven innings while striking out nine. Howard also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
